This is the Final (Original) Art for Print, for the first color Banana Republic cover.
(I don't have any of the original Pencil Roughs or other visual concepts for this cover)
It is also a Proof Of Concept.
I wanted to use a technique that had some of the properties of a hand colored B/W photo.
So I would draw and underdrawing in pencil, that would be photographed and printed on a
photographic paper that had a watercolor paper texture. The slick photo paper would repel the
overpainting in watercolor, so a drop of dishsoap was added to the paint (an old trick).
Some Yellowing was added with airbrush after the painting was done.

This is the Final Drawing after being transferred to photo paper with a watercolor texture.

  1. Loving these illustrations. I even have some of the old catalogs and both books.
